Award Praises Egenera BladeFrame for Significant Technology Lead over Rivals
Marlboro, Mass.—December 6, 2004—Egenera Inc., a leader in utility computing, announced today that the Egenera® BladeFrame® system has been named Best Blade Solution by the Waters Editorial Awards, a program sponsored by Waters Magazine designed to recognize outstanding achievement in the financial IT arena. This is the second year in a row that Egenera has received top honors, having claimed first place for Best Server Solution last year.
This year, Egenera has been honored not only for its ability to outperform other players in the industry, but also for maintaining what Waters describes as an 18-24 month technology lead over its competitors. An early trailblazer in the utility computing market, Egenera has introduced the first new server architecture in a generation, the Processing Area Network or PAN, which has delivered tangible results to Wall Street customers and to numerous enterprises outside of the financial services realm.
"Egenera's Processing Blades are diskless, anonymous and interchangeable, allowing for automated allocation, repurposing and failover," said Phil Albinus, editor of Waters. "By dynamically allocating resources instead of assigning individual servers to specific applications, the Egenera BladeFrame cuts the clutter and significantly streamlines datacenter operations."
"We're excited that Egenera has been honored two years in a row and that the team at Waters has recognized our fundamentally different approach to solving the technology problems that financial institutions deal with every day," said Bob Dutkowsky, Egenera chairman, president and CEO. "Instead of adding a new piece of hardware or software to a patchwork of legacy infrastructure, we've introduced an integrated, elegantly simple yet powerful system designed to reduce capital and operational costs and support greater business agility. This award is a tribute to the employees of Egenera, further validating their groundbreaking work."
The Waters Editorial Awards acknowledge the past year's bold business maneuvers, innovative uses of technology, and achievements that supercede the industry standard. Editors of Waters and its sister publications, Dealing with Technology, Inside Market Data and Hedge Fund & Investment Technology, selected the top technologies, services and people behind the most impressive projects on Wall Street and in the global financial community.
