—Extends Benefits of Egenera's Utility Computing Platform to Solaris Applications—
Marlboro, Mass.—November 15, 2004—Egenera Inc. and Sun Microsystems Inc. today announced that Egenera will add support for the SolarisTM 10 Operating System to the Egenera® BladeFrame® system in the second half of 2005. With this addition, the Egenera BladeFrame will dynamically and automatically deploy and redeploy the Solaris, Linux® and Microsoft® Windows® operating systems across servers in real time. Under the terms of the agreement, Egenera will resell both Solaris 10 running on the x86 platform and the Sun JavaTM Enterprise System.
Adding support for Solaris on Egenera's x86 system is in response to demand from customers, such as those on Wall Street and in other industries, who wish to run Solaris applications in the utility computing environment enabled by the Egenera BladeFrame. With 62 percent share of all units shipped, Sun leads the UNIX® server market (according to Gartner Q2CY04 Server Quarterly Statistics), enabling Egenera to bring its unique virtualization technology to a broader range of customers and applications, and increasing the company's already impressive market potential.

By enabling customers to repurpose individual Egenera Processing BladeTM resources across operating systems, Egenera delivers utility computing today while providing the choice and flexibility to run an extensive range of business services.
