--BladeFrame Interoperability Validated with EMC Symmetrix and CLARiiON Storage Systems--
Marlboro, Mass.--November 11, 2003--Egenera Inc., the leader in next-generation datacenter infrastructure, today announced that Release 3.0 of its EgeneraTM BladeFrame® system has been qualified by EMC Corporation as E-Lab TestedTM. This qualification ensures customers that the BladeFrame is fully interoperable with EMC Symmetrix® and CLARiiON® CX networked storage systems.
The E-Lab Tested qualification process is a series of exhaustive functionality and reliability tests to ensure the interoperability of all components that make up a multi-vendor information storage network. For Egenera customers, this designation provides assurance that EMC will fully support configurations in which Symmetrix and/or CLARiiON CX storage systems are used in conjunction with the BladeFrame.
"EMC offers the highest level of interoperability assurance through the E-Lab with its automated networked storage solutions," said Chuck Hollis, vice president of markets and products at EMC. "E-Lab Tested assures customers that the Egenera BladeFrame system is fully interoperable with EMC Symmetrix and CLARiiON CX networked storage systems, enabling customers to deploy storage infrastructures with confidence."
"Increasingly, enterprise-class datacenters are seeking to increase agility and lower costs through resource virtualization and utility computing," explained Susan Davis, vice president of product marketing and management at Egenera. "Combining EMC's Storage Area Network (SAN) technology with the BladeFrame Processing Area Network (PAN) architecture creates pooled resources that can be allocated to applications as needed, quantifiably improving utilization. The E-Lab Tested qualification assures customers that EMC will fully support both its Symmetrix and CLARiiON platforms in the BladeFrame environment, making the promise of next-generation computing even more compelling."
The Egenera BladeFrame platform, with its Processing Area Network (PAN) architecture, assembles purpose-built hardware and virtualization software in a fully integrated computing system that enables enterprise-class datacenters to lower total cost of ownership and achieve sustainable competitive advantage. The system combines the scalability of blade servers and the price/performance of commodity components with mainframe-class functionality, enabling customers to leverage Linux® and Microsoft® Windows® for mission-critical applications. The BladeFrame creates a pool of up to 96 server-class Intel® processors on 24 Egenera Processing BladeTM resources that are deployed and managed entirely through Egenera PAN ManagerTM software. Processing power can be dynamically increased, decreased and reallocated to support new applications or accommodate variable demand on existing applications without purchasing, installing or managing incremental equipment.
