Mike Thompson of Egenera Selected by Mass High Tech as 2002 New England High Tech All-Star

--Seventh Annual Mass High Tech All-Stars Program Recognizes Innovation Leaders--

Marlboro, Mass.--October 30, 2002--Egenera Inc., the leader in next-generation datacenter infrastructure, announced today that Mass High Tech has recognized Mike Thompson, its chief operating officer, as a 2002 New England High Tech All-Star. Thompson was honored for his role in helping Egenera increase revenues, expand internationally and secure significant venture-capital financing earlier this year.

According to publisher Mark Pillsbury, Mass High Tech's All-Star program, now in its seventh year, profiles New Englanders who have made the most significant impacts in their chosen technical fields.

"The program spotlights the region’s most innovative technologists whose achievements are most likely to affect how we work, live or play today and in the future," said Pillsbury. "These individuals help make New England a center of innovation."

Thompson, this year's Mass High Tech All-Star in the Hardware category, recently drove the opening of Egenera offices in the UK and Japan as the Company expands its international presence to satisfy strong customer demand. Earlier this year, Thompson played a major role as Egenera closed a $44 million third round of funding, which was over-subscribed and resulted in a notably higher valuation.

"By combining open standards with a paradigm shift in processing architecture, Egenera enables enterprise customers to reduce the cost of datacenter computing by 50 percent and more," Thompson explained. "These dramatic results go well beyond what other hardware developers are even trying to achieve, much less what they’re able to deliver. The Mass High Tech All-Star award is a testament to the drive, creativity and dedication of the entire Egenera team as we strive to become the world's next great computer company."

Thompson's rich background of domestic and international operations experience has enabled Egenera to quickly establish a strong presence among enterprise-class customers. Prior to joining the Company, he was senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing at Stratus Technologies, where he was also on the board of directors. Thompson previously served as director of U.S. sales operations for the financial line of business at Tandem Computers, directing sales and support to the nation's top finance accounts. He holds a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Southern Connecticut University.
