Egenera Announces High-performance Two-way Processing Blade Based on the Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology Processor

Marlboro, Mass.—August 2, 2004—Egenera Inc., a leader in utility computing, has expanded its line of Egenera® Processing BladeTM configurations with its highest- performance two-way offering to date. Available immediately, this Processing Blade incorporates the Intel® XeonTM processor, Extended Memory 64 Technology (Intel EM64T), announced by Intel today.

Specifically, the new blade contains two 3.60 GHz Intel EM64T processors with an 800 MHz front-side bus, and supports 8GB of DDR2 memory. DDR2, the next-generation evolution of DDR memory technology, features faster speeds, higher data bandwidths, lower power consumption and enhanced thermal performance.

"Our customers typically run mission-critical and compute-intensive applications on the BladeFrame® system. We select high-performing Intel server processors in order to meet these requirements and to offer a broad line of Processing Blade options for the enterprise," said Susan Davis, vice president of product marketing and management at Egenera. "With its 64-bit memory addressability, EM64T technology also enables the large memory configurations needed for database applications running on the Egenera platform."
