Opens SAP Competence Center; Achieves SAP Adaptive Computing Compliance
ORLANDO, Fla.— May 17, 2006 —Today at SAPPHIRE® '06, Egenera, Inc. announced an extension of its global alliance with SAP AG (NYSE: SAP). As part of the expanded relationship, Egenera has opened an SAP Competence Center at SAP's global headquarters in Walldorf, Germany. Through the new facility, Egenera will provide customers with sizing services and benchmarks, and ensure seamless integration, optimized performance and high-availability of SAP® applications running on the Egenera® BladeFrame® system. In addition, Egenera has been granted the SAP Adaptive Computing Compliance Certificate, which certifies a high quality and proven integration with SAP NetWeaver's adaptive computing capabilities. Adaptive computing allows customers to run applications as services on any shared computing resource at any time, reducing cost of ownership by up to 40 percent. Egenera is the latest SAP Global Technology Partner to achieve this distinction on Microsoft® Windows® platforms.
"We're pleased to expand our relationship with SAP—both in terms of our new Competence Center and the compliance status for SAP NetWeaver's adaptive computing capability," said Kathy Yenke, vice president, Business Development, Egenera. "In May 2005, Egenera became the first enterprise hardware provider in over 10 years to earn the designation of an SAP Global Technology Partner. Today, with the announcement of the SAP adaptive computing compliance test on Windows and the opening of our global SAP Competence Center, we've significantly strengthened this strategic alliance in terms of immediate business value for our joint customers."
In March 2006, SAP announced that it is extending the adaptive computing capabilities of the SAP NetWeaver® platform to Microsoft environments, in close cooperation with its technology partners. The integration and combination of SAP NetWeaver's adaptive computing capabilities with the Egenera BladeFrame system produces numerous synergies for a flexible, dynamic and cost effective SAP application and infrastructure landscape. The Egenera – SAP adaptive computing integration testing was completed at Egenera's new SAP Competence Center at SAP's global headquarters in Walldorf, Germany in cooperation with Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Microsoft and Network Appliance, Inc.
"The alliance between Fujitsu Siemens Computers and SAP goes back more than 25 years, and has led to numerous innovations," said Bernd Kosch, vice president, Alliances, Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "As the strategic partner of both SAP and Egenera, and the exclusive vendor for BladeFrame throughout EMEA, we are pleased to see the strengthened alliance between Egenera and SAP. With both companies, we share the same view on adaptive computing and virtualization, which plays a very strong role in our Dynamic Data Center offering."
The Egenera BladeFrame system and its innovative Processing Area Network (PAN) architecture dramatically reduce complexity in the datacenter and maximize the availability, manageability, scalability and performance of mission-critical applications. With the Adaptive Computing Controller and Egenera PAN, there is a single point of control for all SAP applications, processing resources, I/O, network and storage interfaces within the Egenera system. SAP Adaptive Computing Controller and Egenera PAN provide application and hardware virtualization for SAP solutions running on Egenera, and allow companies to run multiple instances of enterprise software or databases on the same server through virtualization of applications from hardware resources.
"NetApp is pleased to be chosen as the storage platform for Egenera's first adaptive computing compliance test," said Patrick Rogers, vice president of Products and Partners at Network Appliance. "This is evidence of the scalability and reliability that the NetApp unified storage architecture offers customers. The combination of Egenera's architecture coupled with our simplified approach to data management will provide SAP customers with the freedom to grow and scale as their business needs demand."
