Marlboro, Mass.—May 10, 2005—Egenera Inc., a leader in utility computing, today announced that The Standish Group has qualified the Egenera® BladeFrame® as "a very high availability system." Complete findings are presented in a recently released Standish Group Special Report, "Blade Perfect: An Assessment of Egenera System Availability."
"Our research shows that Egenera's BladeFrame system simplifies datacenter management, thereby requiring fewer people and reducing support costs, while providing an excellent level of system availability," said Dr. Sidnie Feit, Chief Scientist, The Standish Group International Inc.
The study notes that the BladeFrame has "an innovative architecture that is radically different from blade systems marketed by HP, IBM or Dell." Egenera customers interviewed by Standish confirmed that BladeFrame systems "are highly available, support rapid deployment of applications and improve utilization." Customers also rated BladeFrame availability as "far better than that of systems such as the HP Superdome or Sun Fire NK servers," with one citing Egenera's ease of deployment and operation as "huge money savers."
"We're always pleased when credible, third-party researchers like The Standish Group validate the BladeFrame's ability to lower datacenter costs while improving application availability and business agility," said Susan Davis, vice president of marketing and product management, Egenera. "But we're even more gratified by the feedback Standish received from our world-class customers, and we remain committed to providing them with market-leading utility computing solutions that simplify their IT environments."
The BladeFrame system was evaluated using The Standish Group's Architectural Readiness for Maintaining Operational Resources (ARMOR) criteria in seven key areas: hardware and architecture, system software, operations, networks, serviceability, applications and site catastrophe. The ARMOR research project was designed to help organizations optimize continuity of business operations within individual cost and ROI restrictions.
