Matsushita Electric Works Information Systems (MEW-IS) Offers Hosting Services Based on the Egenera BladeFrame System

Marlboro, Mass.—March 15, 2005—Egenera Inc, a leader in utility computing, announced that Matsushita Electric Works Information Systems Co., Ltd. (MEW-IS) is providing hosting services based on the Egenera® BladeFrame® system as part of its iDC (Internet Data Center) offering. Purchased through Japanese reseller Net One Systems, the BladeFrame has been integrated with MEW-IS's existing storage area network (SAN) platform. With this new infrastructure, MEW-IS expects to lower total cost of ownership (TCO) by 20 percent while reducing system downtime and enhancing customer-service levels.

"The need for server consolidation is a common problem faced by enterprises and organizations. We believe that our BladeFrame system, with its unique Processing Area Network (PAN) architecture, provides an integrated platform for utility computing that mitigates server sprawl, reduces complexity and lowers IT costs," said Mike Thompson, chief operating officer, Egenera. "The selection of the Egenera BladeFrame by a leading Japanese technology company such as MEW-IS demonstrates that companies worldwide recognize the value of our technology in achieving their IT and business goals."

Features of MEW-IS Hosting Services
By accessing CPU, memory, disk and networking resources from the BladeFrame and SAN platforms, MEW-IS Hosting Services offers a customized "virtual server" environment to meet each customer's requirements. At the same time, customers benefit from the lower costs of shared servers without sacrificing flexibility or security. Specific capabilities in the MEW-IS hosting environment include:

  • Providing precise capacity requirements for CPU, memory and disk storage
  • Building high availability configurations without clustering software
  • Potentially reducing scheduled downtime for system enhancements from five hours to 30 minutes
  • Offering disk backup and application-monitoring services under MEW-IS's integrated service environment
